![]() You should read the reviews of the new Mask AI. Y'know, you buy things to see how well they work. Thankfully it's only sixty bucks and that's pretty cheap. Tried on a slightly backfocused image and it just didn't do shit and took forever to do it. For sharpening it's no better than pain old USM in Ps and less effective than either Focus Magic or Smart Sharpen, and slow as freaking molasses, just like AI Gigapixel. ![]() ![]() They claim it's not on those sites, but how the fuck did I reach her. And don't try to call because although there are two phone numbers on business reference sites for Topaz in Addison, Tx., one is dead and the other goes to a pissed off woman who has asked them to remove her number. com of my email and never sent me the license procedure and never responded to my emails a month ago and now claim I never sent them, which I can't prove since the only way to contact them is through the contact page on their website. Yeah those idiots somehow left the "m" off of the. And, of course, you should dupe the layer first to give you immediate masking options on layers within Ps which is the best way to do that.Īs far as Sharpen AI is concerned, after dealing with the worst customer service in the industry, I finally got a copy of this up an running today. But if you're using Sharpen AI as a Ps plugin from within Ps, it doesn't matter what file format you're using, because you use it and then save your file in whatever format suits you. Tiff is the more universally accepted and used format worldwide and basically, unless you're making Duotones, Tritones or Quadtones for offset lithography, there's no reason to ever use psd again. PSD is the ancient native Photoshop file dating back thirty years now. Saving a TIFF (Tagged Information File Format) with Zip compression, which of course is lossless, results in a smaller file than with a psd file, which does not use Zip compression. TIFF is NOT outdated and it, along with jpeg are the two most commonly used file formats. Can't understand why Topaz is still stuck in the past on this issue of using an old format." "TIFF is really outdated and creates huge file sizes vs PSD, which is also lossless btw. I did a quick job here and didn't cover everything.Ĭanon EOS R RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens 63mm f/18.0 1/125s 320 ISO -0.3 EV That demo probably didn't originate using an LR file. About minute 28 he presses apply mask it shows what was sharpened. I got messed up watching Joel Wolfson's podcast. Decided to re-install it and while doing so I thought maybe I should check the TIFF back in LR. When I press the Apply Mask button it reverts back to the original. I apply Masking, mask the rider and it looks good. I apply Stabilize which messes up the background. I am running the latest version of Catalina and Sharpen is 2.0.5. I have watched that Joel Wolfson podcast several times (around minute 28) so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it correctly. (At least from the number of posts I've seen on multiple photo sites.) I have a 2018 MBP and 2019 iMac and Topaz AI softwares runs very well and are fast. It sure seems that there are more problems with the Windows Topaz AI plugins. It also may be that Topaz products are poorly optimized for the Mac OS, so it's a double whammy if you have a less than ideal GPU running on a Mac. Specifics seem to be lacking regarding the other AI packages as well. Topaz has offered no specific guidance, at least that I have seen, on which GPUs may benefit from this setting. Settings such as *GPU Optimization* in Mask AI may, if selected, cause the software to hang and return no result. For example if you do a series of tracked subs for the sky, and one untracked exposure for the foreground, producing a mask to composite the two is shockingly easy, regardless of how complex the horizon is.Topaz AI products are picky about what GPU is used. It's not just that it computes a mask on formidably complex borders (hair, a treeline), but that the tools for cleaning up and adjusting that mask work so well and so easily. Topaz ReMask is a game-changer product for my general photography (though it's useless for masking stars). As I've said here before, I've asked if they would come out with some astrophotography presets and got enthusiastically positive responses - but no presets. I like their Detail product for sharpening very well, and have been using DeNoise more and more, especially since they came out with the "AI" version. I've been a pretty big fan of the Topaz products for general photography for years. starnet++, run DeNoise on the nebulosity, then add the stars back in. The other play would be to remove stars with e.g.
